Bovid faces death sentence

Cardiff High Court decides this morning whether Shambo is to live or die. Welsh farmers and AMs say that the bovid should face the same fate as any other cattle if they were diagnosed with bovine TB, whereas the Hindus of Skanda Vale think that their domesticated ungulate should be treated if he becomes ill rather than just slaughtered.

Rural minister Jane Davidson, who approved the slaughter, said destroying Shambo would protect the public. The BBC reports that lawyers defending the four stomached individual will also highlight issues around the reliability of the initial TB test, made during a routine screening on 27 April. For some this will no doubt sound like a load of bullocks.

Dw i wedi cyfro nifer o straeon am y prawf TB a mae ffermwyr wedi dweud wrtha'i bod y prawf yn annibynadwy a bod da byw wedi eu lladd sy'n ymddangos yn iach wedyn (hyd at 80% ohonynt yn ol un ffermwr)...

Mae'n berffaith bosib felly bod Shambo yn iach a mae mwy nag un canlyniad 'inconclusive' sydd 'na... Neu bod afiechyd arall fel Fluke wedi dangos fel TB.

Does dim prawf amgen, blaw am gamma interferon, a mae hwnna'n dangos gormod o false positives 'fyd.

Ond y ddadl wrth gwrs yw os ydi'r ffermwyr yn gorfod dioddef ansicrwydd a problemau arianol yn sgil y prawf annibynadwy hwn pam ddylai Shambo druan gael ei achub?

Yr unig ganlyniad sy'n mynd i blesio pawb yw eu bod nhw'n lladd Shambo a'i agor o fyny a gweld bod o'n llawn TB. Os ydi nhw'n lladd o a bod dim ol TB arno fydde fo'n achosi tipyn o embaras!

radio 4 have given more coverage to this bloody cow than they have to the election and constitutional ramifications of Plaid getting ito government.

It's 'for Wales - see silly story'.

We may as well become independent, England wouldn't notice!

When I looked at the headline, I thought you were referring to Bethan Jenkins. Judging by the vacant look in said bovid's eyes, a distant cousin...

I think this is quite uncalled for

Watch out valleys mam, Bethan is a Merthyr girl and would sort you out. You might not like her politics, but you would be very unwise to judge her as a fool.

Watch out valleys mam,

Actually, VM was quoting a previous comment, but forgot to put in the quotation marks. Her own comment was:

I think this is quite uncalled for

I take it back, but still leave the warning for people looking to take her on. She has fire in her belly, which is more than I can say for many of Wales elected elite.

Thanks for spotting the error on both our parts.

Alas they have let the tb reactor live, the court should have argued that is Shambo is holy - that is a god in some form - then he would rise from the dead after being put down.

Thus all parties would be satisfied.
